Paying homage to one of the greatest musicians of all time, the Ray Charles Tribute Orchestra is a 7 to 13 - piece ensemble performing the hits penned by the legend himself.

Formed by Musical Director John Gray, bassist and leader on the Calgary Jazz scene who toured with the Ray Charles Orchestra, the ensemble of the city's finest musicians recreate the one-of-a-kind sound of Ray Charles and perform such hits as 'Georgia On My Mind', 'Mary Ann', 'Hit the Road Jack' and 'Let the Good Times Roll', among them.

Featuring Grammy Award Winner Donald Ray Johnson or Mr. Thomas Alexander ( The Voice ) on lead vocals, the group includes a solid rhythm section, a killer horn section and two backup singers known as  "Soothe Your Soul".

The Ray Charles Tribute Orchestra is quickly becoming well-known to local audiences and is a popular choice for conventions, weddings and corporate performances.   Their tight sound, danceable rhythms and extensive repertoire have captured audiences whose tastes run from Jazz to Blues, Soul, R&B and Gospel.

Complementing an extensive Ray Charles repertoire, the band entertains audiences with music from several different genres as well. Styles include - Big Band, Blues, Country, Disco, Funk, Jazz, Latin, Motown, Pop, R&B, Rock & Roll and Swing.

The response to “The Voice” and his songs is tremendous.  Thomas’s songs have often graced Canada’s top 20.  He has opened for artists such as James Brown, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Kool and the Gang and has sung lead vocals with The Platters.  Thomas can and does sing every  style.  But he is known for his “Voice” as a Balladeer.

Thomas had a two year tour in Japan featuring Rhythm and Blues and Motown.  While in Japan, he released 7 CD’s under his pen name, Rejie.  On his list also was the completion of a country CD and video.  One of Thomas’ latest released CDs is called “The Golden Oldies” featuring ‘Unchained Melody’.  As well, his newest CD called “My Playground” is to be released internationally.

Thomas is now in demand for featured musicals and has starred in the lead role as Judas in ‘JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR’.  He also appeared in ‘MO MAGIC’, with Irene Cara of FLASHDANCE and FAME, and Florence Larue, lead vocalist with ‘THE 5TH DIMENSION’.  Thomas has also starred in the lead role of Jim in the Broadway Musical ‘BIG RIVER’ as well as the lead role of Benny in the ‘MORE MAGIC’ musical along with Florence Larue.

Thomas has also done many praise and worship gatherings to share his vocal blessings for the Lord.  He himself will tell you that the Lord has blessed him with a versatile voice.  It’s not about his voice; it’s what God has done through him for the Glory to God.  Through Thomas’s voice, he can share the anointing of God for praise and worship anywhere, anytime and forever.  Amen.
